Depression.

Private depression care can range from outpatient appointments to a hospital or residential programme. Assessment should establish the type and severity of depression, your safety and the support already available.

Treatment should match clinical need

Talking therapies and medicines may form part of treatment, depending on assessment and preference. Residential care is one possible setting; it is not needed by everyone with depression.

Compare the team and follow-up

Ask who makes the clinical assessment, who manages any medicines and how progress will be reviewed. Confirm support for returning home, work and relationships.

Outpatient, day or inpatient care

Ask why the suggested intensity fits the assessment. An outpatient plan may be appropriate for some people; others need more support. A provider should explain what would trigger a change in setting.

Make the therapy proposal clear

Request the type of therapy, appointment frequency, review process and the role of any medicines. Ask who coordinates the plan and whether the same clinician can remain involved through follow-up.

Privacy, work and home support

Compare practical needs such as confidential appointments, time away from work and family involvement with consent. If considering care abroad, confirm medical travel suitability and UK follow-up before deciding.

Questions for your assessment

  • Who carries out the psychiatric assessment and any medication review?
  • How will progress and the level of care be reviewed?

Compare relevant services

These profiles are starting points for enquiries based on published service models. Confirm the specific clinician, condition expertise, current programme and appropriate level of care. Inclusion does not establish suitability for admission.

Considering a residential programme abroad?

THE BALANCE and COGNIFUL describe private programmes for mental health and addiction concerns. Ask how the proposed programme would address your assessed needs. Both belong to THE BALANCE GROUP, and their residential treatment is outside the UK.

A common question

Is residential treatment necessary for everyone with depression?

No. Treatment setting depends on assessment, severity, safety and available support. A private stay is one possible route.
